Baton Rouge, LA — John Piper Matthews, New Sony recording Artist known by his stage name DopeBoyBluez, is revolutionizing the Southern Soul music industry with his groundbreaking new Southern Soul genre, "Nubluez."
Born on October 3, 1980, in Clinton, Louisiana, this American singer and songwriter is positioning himself as one of the greatest artists in the history of American blues-soul and a seminal figure in soul music and rhythm and blues.
Nicknamed "pipe" or "pike," Matthews' singing style draws inspiration from the Gospel music that laid the foundation for the genre. His raw talent and innate skills have influenced a new wave of Southern soul and hip-hop artists, igniting a renaissance in these genres during the early and mid-2000s under the consultant of darkangelproject/DopeBoyBluezLLC.
Matthews' journey in music began in the small town of Clinton, Louisiana, where he grew up as one of four brothers in a single-parent household. Despite their meager resources, they faced life's challenges head-on. His mother, a strong churchgoer, sought solace in her faith to overcome life's hardships.
John, influenced by legends such as Otis Redding, Jackie Wilson, James Brown, and Sam Cooke, credited his mother as his primary source of inspiration. In modern time most people say he sounds like Anthony Hamilton, Mystikal, and Anderson Paak. His music career, he often expressed, was a tribute to her and her determination to provide a better life.
In 2000, John gained recognition with the release of the "Dastranger Compilation," a self-titled project produced by his cousin Playa Pizzle producer of "Money maker" with 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne.
The turning point arrived when John signed with Krucial Records in collaboration with the producer duo East & West, financed by NBA legend John "Hot Rod" Williams. The album "So Krucial" marked the beginning of a new phase in John's career, featuring hit tracks such as "Shake a Leg" and "C-Town."
The journey took them to New York and performed at Marcy Day Project, with fellow artists and industry professionals Jaz-O. The relationships forged during this trip were crucial in advancing their music career. John then began meeting other made artist like Lil Flip and Bun B.
However, fame had its drawbacks, including challenges with management and personal relationships. It was clear that John was evolving as an artist and as an individual, needed to adopt a more mature and responsible outlook on life.
John's meteoric rise was not without its challenges. John shifted his focus back to the studio, improving their recording skills and exploring new production techniques. This creative endeavor paved the way for their unique music style, later recognized in 2020 as "Nubluez." That year as a new artist John attended the Award Show and encountered many celebrities. “Nubluez” was also solidified by Wyld Kyle of Jagged Edge at the Temple Theater in Meridian, MS for the King Russell Underground Southern Soul Awards.
In 2014, John embarked on a remarkable journey by introducing "DopeBoyBluez," his self-branded project that showcased his unique fusion of R&B, blues, and rap. The hit debut single "Keep Dancing" ,"Swing-out"and "Came 2 Party" was just a glimpse of what was to come.
In 2022, John's career reached new heights as he joined KISS 94.1fm Meridian MS and WZKD: The Big KD 94.1fm, affiliated with King Russell Entertainment (KRE), a Sony/Universal music label now with Empire Records alongside Death Rose Records. KRE's vision was to become the first Southern Soul label to secure Sony and Universal Distribution. John released "Sometimes she loves me" with King under Empire Records.
Despite several challenges in this partnership, John's unique sound gained attention from Empire. His experiences touring with DJ Callie and other soul artists across three states broadened his reach and garnered more acclaim. They soon encountered Army Veterans William Stokes and Mr. Clarence, Gulf Coast Promotions who are pivotal figures in their journey along the Gulf Coast with assistance from Boss Ent Marquez Harness as Booking Manager.
In their pursuit of a major record deal, they crossed paths with Mr. Mike Boss of Rich Nation Entertainment LLC /Universal Music Group/Virgin Music/Sony Music, offering them a Sony/Rich Nation deal. This deal was a critical turning point, poised to elevate John's career to the next level.
John's upcoming album promises to be a masterpiece of music that will stand the test of time. However, with rising fame comes its share of challenges. Navigating the complexities of the music industry and maintaining personal integrity is an ongoing journey.
As DopeBoyBluez continues to break free from the confines of conventional music and explores his revolutionary Southern Soul "Nubluez" sound, the future holds the promise of a groundbreaking era in music. John's dedication, resilience, and unwavering passion for his craft define his extraordinary journey and legacy.
